Reasonable Nomanclatures of Invisibility Group Exhibition at PARISTEXASLA

  • PARISTEXASLA Los Angeles, CA (map)

'Reasonable Nomenclatures of Invisibility' explores the work of artists Alanis Forde, Julianna Foster, Kris Graves, Dara Haskins, Dominique Hunter, James Maurelle, Lenard Smith, Autumn Wallace, Mark Jason Weston, Megan Gabrielle, Naomieh Jovin, Tim Gierschick II, and Tim McFarlane, by delving into a myriad of intersections of personal and cultural identities, perceptions while consciously or unconsciously challenging disambiguations of race, gender, identity, and agency.

Through photography, video, painting, and mixed media, the works presented in ‘Reasonable Nomenclatures of Invisibility’ endeavor to ask: How does the individual artist carry within them some, all, or none of the factors contributing to global communal connectivity? Moreover, how does the reinterpretation of figure, space, agency, and place become a meditation on the complex yet intricately interconnected experiences of artists of African, American, Caribbean, and European ancestries? When these artists look to the world, what is in the reflection? And how does the viewer reconcile these known and unknown archives of unique histories, diverse futures, and yet to be named mythologies?
